 ENTRY PROCEDURES

Additional Age Groups have been introduced to solo events.
There are now up to five groups ranging from Under 8’s to Open.

To enter any of the three Strathalbyn Eisteddfod solo musical sections – Piano, Instrumental and Vocal,
it is now only necessary to indicate on the Entry Form which Event you wish
 to enter – Classical, Popular etc.

You will be placed in the appropriate competitive Group depending on
your age, and on the entries received.

 A MEDAL WILL BE PRESENTED TO ALL PERFORMERS
 PLACED FIRST IN A COMPETITIVE SECTION.

NEW THIS YEAR
Vocal – Golden Voice
 
A special solo competition for singers over 45 years of age

Contemporary Vocal – Amplified Voice 
This solo event will be held again, after its very successful introduction last year

Instrumental Section 
 Open to solo musicians of all ages playing any musical instrument – strings, wind, guitar etc. 

CD or Tape Accompaniment
    In addition to piano accompaniment, entrants in the solo Vocal and Instrumental Sections may use CD or
 tape backing
. Entrants must provide their own CD or tape player, and arrange for their
own operator.

 The type of accompaniment to be used is to be stated on the Entry Form.

Jazz & Baby Boomer Events
   
These Sections have failed to attract sufficient entries, and have been withdrawn from this year's Syllabus.

LATE ENTRIES CANNOT BE ACCEPTED THIS YEAR

Any entry received after 7th May will be returned
 together with the entry fee.

To enter Piano sections, on the Entry Form
 simply tick the box alongside the sections you wish to enter.

 
Solo performers may enter any or all of
 the following Sections:

CLASSICAL – From the Classical repertoire. A serious composition with artistic merit excluding jazz and popular. 

POPULAR   –   With no improvisation

AUSTRALIAN – A composition by an Australian composer. Must be a different piece to that played by  the competitor in any other section. 

NOVICE SECTION – Only for students who have been playing for less than 18 months. They must be learning their first instrument, and eligibility is to be verified by the teacher on the Entry Form.
 

 Music - Own choice of piece(s) to conform with the above conditions.

Performers may enter one or both of the following Sections:

 CLASSICAL – Solo from the Classical repertoire.

 MUSICAL   -   Solo from any Stage or Film Musical.
 To be performed in costume.

 
 

 A photocopy of the music must be supplied for the
adjudicator of the Classical and Musical Sections.

In the Classical and Musical Sections, entrants are to provide
their own piano accompanist, or may use CD or tape
 backing. In these Sections, entrants must provide their own
 CD or tape player, and arrange for their
own operator.

MUSIC  -  Own choice. Entrants who performed in last years
Eisteddfod are required to present different music this year. 

Time Limit - all Sections:  5 minutes

CONTEMPORARY  VOCAL

 (AMPLIFIED  VOICE)

 The following conditions apply to this Section 

  ~

The use of the microphone  is compulsory.

  ~

Recorded backing music can be on CD only.

  ~

The CD must be clearly labelled with
the Entrant No. & Name (as per
 the programme), and the Track No.

  ~

A copy of the Lyrics must be
provided for the adjudicator.

  ~

All standard copyright rules apply.

  ~

 

 A contemporary arrangement is expected, and freedom of expression is acceptable.

 

A microphone and stand, sound system, foldback
 and CD player will be provided.

Provision will be made for a sound check
 before each performance.

 Music  -  Own choice of piece(s)

 Time Limit - 5 minutes 

 Entry Fee - $8    

Note that events will be scheduled so that vocalists may enter all Vocal Sections, Classical, Musical and Contemporary


 

  VOCAL

 ~ GOLDEN VOICE ~

A new and very special competition for solo amateur singers over the age of 45.

 

 The following conditions apply to this Section 

  ~

Entrants MAY NOT enter any other solo Vocal Section

  ~

Entrants are to provide their own piano accompanist, or may use CD or tape backing. In this Section, entrants must provide their own CD or tape player, and arrange for their own operator.

  ~

Entrants may make their own choice of music ~
Classical, Musical theatre etc

  ~

A copy of the Lyrics must be provided for the adjudicator.

  ~

All standard copyright rules apply.

   

Time Limit - 5 minutes   

Entry Fee - $8 
 

 

 Electronic and amplified instruments are excluded

Competition will be in two age Groups as follows:
  Juniors – 12 years and under
Seniors – 13 years and over

Guitar Solo
Guitar/Vocal Solo
Classical Guitar Solo
Guitar Duet
Guitar/Vocal Duet
Guitar Ensemble
Guitar/Vocal Ensemble

   

The programme for solos, duets and ensembles will be designed when all entries have been received.

 

Time Limit - 5 minutes   
 

Entry Fee - $8 

 

                                                   

 

Open to all instruments including Vocal,
 but excluding Electronic or Amplified.

Competition will be in Groups as follows:
1) 2-4 performers
2) Over 4 performers

Separate Groups for duets, trios, quartets, groups of
5-12 and groups of over 12 will be created
 if sufficient entries are received.

Music  -  Own choice of piece(s)       

Time Limit: Duets, Trios, & Quartets    -  5 minutes
                  Ensembles of  5 & over     -  8 minutes

Entry Fee:  Duets, Trios, & Quartets    -  $8  
                 Ensembles of 5 & over      -  $12 
                                  



 

 

 Competition will be in two age Groups as follows:
  Juniors – 12 years and under
Seniors – 13 years and over

 Open to any solo performer who resides in Country S.A. For the purposes of this event
“Country Districts” is in general defined as those regions with postcodes higher than 5200,
but including Ashbourne, Echunga and Macclesfield. The exception to this guideline is
Mount Barker which is excluded from the competition.

 Eligible performers from all Eisteddfod Sections are encouraged to enter this competition.
 As the Eisteddfod is held over two successive days, the competition is held in two
“Heats”,  Heat 1  on Saturday and  Heat 2 on Sunday. These Heats will be in the two age groups.
 The first and second placegetters from each Heat will be invited to compete in the two finals
(Senior and Junior) to be held on Sunday afternoon. The placegetters from Heat 1
will be required to return for the finals.

 A Trophy will be presented to each winner.
A cash prize will be awarded to each winner and runner-up.

 

INSTRUMENT:   Any  except  amplified.  Includes Vocal. Backing tapes or CD’s may be used.
Entrants must provide their own CD or tape player, and arrange for their own operator.

 MUSIC:  Own choice.  In the Heats the music must be different from any performed
 or to be performed by the entrant in any other event. However, music performed
in the Heat may also be performed in the Final.

 Time Limit – 5 minutes

 Entry Fee - $8   

 

To be held Friday 22nd June
during school hours

 Open to all Primary Schools.

 Trophies will be awarded to choirs placed
1st, 2nd and 3rd in the competition.

 The winner also receives
the perpetual trophy  and a cash prize

Music - 2 Contrasting pieces

Total Time Limit  - 8 minutes

Entry Fee - $12   



 


Held in the Chapel Theatre where full stage facilities are available

Performers may enter the following Sections:

 MONOLOGUE (without script) – A prepared
presentation of a published work or of original material.

 
MONOLOGUE (with script) – A prepared reading of
 a published work or of original material. For Junior
 and Intermediate groups only.

 SCENE  -  A dramatic scene presented by two or three performers. The piece may be a scene from a published play, or may be original material.

 GROUP DRAMA  -  A dramatic presentation by between
 3–20 performers of all ages. The piece may be from
 a published play, or may be original material.

 

 A copy of the script must be supplied for the adjudicator in all Sections 

Prompting is allowed in the Speech & Drama Sections, but will be taken into consideration by the adjudicator.
