RULES & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
ELIGIBILITY
1. All
Sections are open to amateur competitors. An amateur is defined as one
not deriving a significant proportion of his/her income from teaching or
performing in that field.
2. Only the person named on the Entry Form may perform in the event
listed in the programme.
3. Any entrant who has been taught, coached or advised by the
Adjudicator of a Section in the 6 months prior to the day of
competition, shall be ineligible to compete in that Section, but may
perform non-competitively and receive an adjudication.
ENTRIES
4. Entries must be printed in BLOCK letters on the official entry form
and lodged with the Secretary fully completed. A SEPARATE FORM must be
submitted for each entrant. Entry forms may be photocopied.
5. Entries must be accompanied by the correct fee. Fees are to be
remitted by cheque or money order only. Cash payments by mail are
illegal.
6. Entry fees are not refundable except where a Section is cancelled.
Entrants are not entitled to any refund of fees in cases of non-appearance
for any reason.
7. The age of an entrant shall be deemed to be their age as at 1st JUNE
IN THE YEAR OF COMPETITION. The date of birth must be stated on the Entry
Form. Entrants must be prepared to produce a certificate of birth if
required.
8. The Strathalbyn Eisteddfod Society Inc reserves the right to:
a) Amend or cancel any Section that has attracted insufficient entries
b) Divide or combine any Section
c) Convene heats and to alter section times as shown in the programme
d) Refuse an entry.
PERFORMANCE
9. No entrant may perform the same item in more than one Section except
where specifically stated in the Syllabus.
10. Entrants may enter ensembles etc. any number of times in a Section
provided more than half the group is changed.
11. Prompting or assistance of any kind may not be given to any entrant,
except by the Adjudicator. Assistance with tuning an instrument prior to
performance is permitted.
12. Should an entrant break down and leave the stage during a performance
for any reason, that entrant shall be allowed to perform again (time
permitting) FOR COMMENTS ONLY.
MUSICAL REQUIREMENTS
13. A legible copy of the music to be performed MUST be provided to the
Adjudicator, and submitted to the Booking Officer at least 30 minutes
prior to the commencement of the Section, and must be collected by the
entrant at the close of the Section.
14. Unpublished music will be accepted, but the manuscript must be
legible. Instrumental cadenzas must be included with the copy for the
Adjudicator and must be legible.
TIME LIMITS
15. Time limits will be strictly adhered to. A performance may be shorter
than the limit, but it must not exceed it. Entrants may perform more than
one piece provided that the total performing time does not exceed
the time limit.
COPYRIGHT
16. NO PHOTOCOPIED MATERIAL MAY BE USED by the competitor on stage.
This is illegal and all competitors infringing this rule will be
disqualified unless proof of official authorization of material is
produced or unless the material is out of copyright. HOWEVER, photocopies
of the material to be performed may be supplied for use by the Adjudicator
and/or Accompanist but theses copies will be destroyed after use.
In this regard, APRA requires all entrants to complete and present the
appropriate written declarations at the time of performance. The Society
will advise all entrants of these requirements after entries have been
received. The Society will not be liable for any copyright infringement.
ADJUDICATION
17. The Society reserves the right to appoint a substitute Adjudicator for
the announced Adjudicator.
18. No communication with the adjudicator is to be made after the close of
entries or during the period of the Eisteddfod, without the permission of
the Society. Any entrant so offending may be disqualified.
19. The Adjudicator’s decision relating to the awards in each Section is
final. The Adjudicator has the right to withhold a prize, and such
decision is final.
CONDUCT
20. Entrants are reminded that a high standard of personal presentation is
considered desirable, and will be taken into consideration.
21. No person shall be permitted to enter or leave the venue whilst a
competitor is performing.
22. Practising on the stage during the Eisteddfod is NOT permitted.
23. Parents or teachers are not allowed on or behind the stage unless
accompanying or conducting, or at the Adjudicator’s request, rendering
assistance.
24. The use of Tape Recorders, Video Cameras, Mobile Phones, Mobile Phone
Cameras, or pagers is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Performances are copyright. Any
person not complying with this rule will be asked to leave the venue.
LIABILITY
25. Neither the Society nor any of its organisers, assistants or
volunteers shall be held liable for any delay, loss or damage to the
property of, or any inconvenience caused to, any participants arising from
any cause whatsoever.
Failure to comply
with any of the foregoing Rules and Conditions may result in
disqualification of the competitor. The decisions of the Society in all
questions or disputes arising out of, or not provided for, by these Rules
and Conditions will be final. All entries will be received according to
this condition in the spirit of friendly competition upon which the
Eisteddfod is based
